AF Corse wins the FIA World Cup for Hypercar Teams in Texas

AF Corse conquista in Texas la FIA World Cup for Hypercar Teams

Under the constant rain that affected most of the six-hour Lone Star Le Mans race, AF Corse clinched its eighth class title in the FIA World Endurance Championship, from 2012 to the current season.

The number 83 Ferrari 499P driven by Robert Kubica, Phil Hanson, and Prancing Horse factory driver Yifei Ye won the FIA World Cup for Hypercar Teams, reserved for independent teams competing in the premier class of the FIA WEC. This achievement adds to AF Corse's list of successes, which previously included four titles in the LMGTE Pro class and three in the LMGTE Am class.

After Kubica took pole position in Hyperpole on Saturday, the Giallo Modena car maintained its lead in the early stages of the race, which were characterized by a long neutralization behind the safety car and also a red flag. When the race resumed, Hanson led the way for several laps before handing the car over to Ye. In the second phase of the race, a penalty incurred during a pit stop and a series of collisions slowed down the Chinese driver and Kubica, who took the wheel for the final phase of the race. Finishing seventh overall and first in class under the checkered flag, the crew collected the points needed to mathematically secure the title with two races to spare.

The crew of the number 83 Ferrari, already winners of the 24 Hours of Le Mans last June, currently occupy second place in the Drivers' World Championship standings, 15 points behind Pier Guidi-Calado-Giovinazzi, who drive the number 51 499P for the Ferrari - AF Corse team.
